2018 Life Sciences Expo Recap

Our second Life Sciences Expo was a huge success! With more than 300 in attendance, 37 exhibitors, and 35 sponsors, the response was overwhelmingly positive to the day’s program, exhibits, table topics and networking events.

The morning started with our keynote presentation, Building A Life Sciences Ecosystem with Susan Windham-Bannister, PhD and closed with the Immuno-Oncology and CART-T Cell Therapies panel with Steven Katz, MD of Roger Williams Medical Center, Robert Knight, MD of Sorrento Therapeutics and Michael Green, MD, Novartis Institutes.

Table topics during lunch included Biomanufacturing, Digital Health Technologies, Intellectual Property Planning, Legal and Business Strategies for Early-Stage MedTech Companies, Pharmaceutical Research & Development Basics, Pros and Cons of Graduate School, Providence Innovation and Design District Updates, SEG’s Health & Wellness Accelerator and the Venture Mentoring Service of RI.

The afternoon Life Sciences Investment panel featured Hunt Henrie from Locust Walk, Robert Manning, Cherrystone Angel Group, Richard Horan, Slater Technology Fund and Jennifer Rousseau from Chewsi. The Health Technologies panel included Laura Adams from RIQI, Maureen Boudreau, J&J, Kunal Mankodiya, URI and Aidan Petrie from NEMIC. The Alzheimer’s Disease panel was comprised of Peter Snyder, PhD and Paula Grammas, PhD, both from URI, Stephen Salloway, MD from Butler Hospital and Robert Nelson, PhD, MindImmune Therapeutics.Our fifth and final panel of the day was Vision for Innovation in Rhode Island and included Bob Coughlin, MassBio, Tom Osha, Wexford Science & Technology, Dougan Sherwood, CIC and Kelly Ramirez, SEG. Stephan Pryor, RI Secretary of Commerce, closed the day by addressing the recent progress of the Life Sciences Ecosystem in Rhode Island.
