Experience the Art of Women in Science and on Broadway
Attend a virtual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Mathematics) series

Enjoy a unique Broadway experience exploring the intersection of science and art. This 3-part series is different than our usual WEST events in that we will watch Broadway stars perform and explore the parallels between artistic and scientific processes of creation and innovation. We have an opportunity to explore the challenges women face in their fields through the lens of Broadway performances. True to our mission to inspire, we will hear from compelling keynote speakers during each session.

Engineering Art
Radioactive, A musical about Marie Curie

Participants will get a sneak peek of scenes and songs from the Marie Curie-themed musical Radioactive by Will Reynolds and Eric Price. You will discover the parallels in the creative process between the artists who create musicals about scientific historical figures and the scientists inspiring their work. The creators of this musical will speak about their research of science in writing the play and how these two worlds have combined to make a musical. These creatives will discuss the challenges of bringing the piece from inception to workshop experimentation to final theatrical presentation.

MUSICAL SYNOPSIS: This musical is the story of Marie and Pierre Curie, the two revolutionary scientists who discovered radium, the most mysterious element on the Periodic Table. They become an inseparable team and, as they uncover their element, they encounter a glowing force that is beautiful and frightening, that has the power to heal and the power to kill. And they must decide what to do with it.

Additionally, one lucky attendee drawn at random will win tickets to an arts organization in their town.
