MedMates Carries Strong Momentum into 2018!

MedMates enters 2018 with strong momentum, buoyed by a year of many highlights. Here are a few of the milestones MedMates accomplished in 2017:

We brought Rhode Island’s Life Sciences community together

  • Hosted Rhode Island’s first-ever Life Sciences Expo – attended by over 300 people and featuring industry-leading speakers and world class exhibitors
  • Hosted 7 MedMates After Hours Networking Events, attended by over 250 people
  • Published monthly e-newsletter, highlighting Life Sciences events and activities

We strengthened our leadership

  • Hired a full time Executive Director in January 2017
  • Expanded our Board of Directors by bringing on Dr. Patrice Milos, a pioneer at the interface of genomics and medicine

We raised our presence and profile in the community

  • Secured critical industry affiliation with Biotechnology Innovation Organization
  • Grew our membership 46%, to over 1100
  • RI Governor Gina Raimondo named  “Bio Governor of the Year”

Our strategic plan evolved with 3 key areas identified

  • Advocacy & Publicity
  • Community Building & Talent Development
  • Resources & Capital

We improved our financial picture

  • Secured $250,000 in funding, thanks to the Rhode Island Department of Labor, CommerceRI, the Rhode Island Foundation and fees from our Expo

We evolved our partnerships

  • Our partnership with New England Medication Innovation Center – NEMIC – was recently recognized with a $150K grant from CommerceRI
  • We partnered with SEG, RI BioHub, BioScience Leaders, BioSci Labs, the Slater Technology Fund, the RI Business Plan Competition, Cherrystone Angel Group, the Warren Alpert Medical School, the Southern New England Entrepreneurs Forum and more
  • We’re working with our strategic partners on developing an Aging Cluster

As exciting as it is to look back at 2017, it’s even more exciting to look ahead at 2018:

  • On April 4 we will host a bigger and better Expo!
  • We will increase our number of full time staff
  • We will continue to expand and evolve our strategic partnerships
  • We expect to increase our total funding by 50% in 2018

And so much more!

MedMates is the only organization that is solely dedicated to growing RI’s Life Sciences economy and – thanks to you –  we are gaining traction.  Thank you for your energy and support in 2017; 2018 is already off to a great start!
