RI Bio and the RI-Israel Collaborative Work Together to Develop the State’s Digital Healthcare Economy

The Rhode Island Israel Collaborative (RIIC) in collaboration with RI Bio presented a three-hour forum on “New Israeli Innovation In Digital Health: Shaping the Future of Healthcare” at the Warren Alpert School of Brown University.

Participants learned first-hand how new Israeli innovation is shaping the field of medicine for the short and long term. Megan Ranney, MD, MPH – Director of Emergency Digital Health Innovation Program, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Brown University, moderated a panel of guest speakers that included: David Barone – Principal MedTech Advisors, Inc., Tamar Raz, PhD – CEO of Hadasit Medical Research Services & Development Ltd, Roey Tzezana, PhD – Future Studies Researcher at Tel Aviv University and Amy Zimmerman, MPH – RI State HIT Coordinator at the RI Executive Offices of Health and Human Services. Stefan Pryor, RI Secretary of Commerce, served as honorary guest speaker for the event.

Many great ideas for connections and potential collaborations for Israeli and RI organizations resulted from the digital health forum.RI Bio was pleased to partner with The Rhode Island-Israel Collaborative(RIIC) to present a three-hour workshop entitled, “New Israeli Innovation in Digital Health Shaping the Future of Healthcare.” with three Israeli keynote speakers. David Barone, Principal, Boston MedTech Advisors, Inc
David Barone’s background consists of 25 years experience in the healthcare and medical industry in the US, including general, technical and operations management, strategic planning, marketing and business development.  David Barone held senior management positions in a number of medical device companies, overseeing product development, marketing, pilot manufacturing, clinical evaluations, regulatory affairs and intellectual properties.  In addition, David Barone is an accomplished entrepreneur, founding, financing and growing several healthcare service organizations.  While leading these companies, David Barone entered into clinical and business affiliations with many top-tier medical centers in the US, negotiated and successfully contracted with many of the national and regional health plans, and evolved high quality and efficient clinical delivery systems.  David Barone has consulted and assisted US and off-shore medical technology organizations, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, in diverse areas including market development, opportunity analysis, regulatory and reimbursement strategies, business development, financing and more. B.Sc., Electrical Engineering, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, M.Sc., Bio-Medical Engineering and Master, Business Administration, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY.

Dr. Tamar Raz, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Hadasit Medical Research Services & Development Ltd.
Prior to joining Hadasit, Tamar served as VP Marketing and Strategy at Ramot, the Technology Transfer Company of Tel Aviv University, and was responsible for the company strategic alliances, marketing activities and commercialization.

Tamar managed the establishment and served as CEO of Allergene, an Israeli start-up company that was founded as an incubator project.

Tamar’s PhD and MSc were earned in Cell Biology from Tel Aviv University School of Medicine. Expertise include; commercialization of medical technologies from the academic/ laboratory bench to the industry in order to  turn ideas into viable products and services;  establishment and management of  corporate and academic relationships, pre-clinical development operations;  raising funds including investment of venture capital, corporate collaborations, contractual research relationships and government grants.

Dr. Roey Tzezana, Ph.D., Futurist
Roey Tzezana is a futures studies researcher at Tel Aviv University and a research fellow at Brown University. He’s the lead researcher in XPRIZE, where he leads the research on the future of human longevity and age reversal. He’s acting as a scientific consultant to several firms and international bodies, and is the author of best-selling books about the future of technology and society. He has co-founded the SimPolitix project for political forecasting and TeleBuddy – a firm that operates telepresence robots around the globe, allowing him to teach, lecture and live in three different continents at the same time, using robotic avatars as his bodies. His research has led him to journey worldwide – from Kazakhstan to Latin America and even Antarctica (where he became one of the few people in the world to capture Pokemon on that barren continent) – trying to understanding how technology will impact humanity and reshape our society and institutions.  Dr. Tzezana is also the Rhode Island Manager of ScienceAbroad.
